Bangladesh have named their Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Pakistan, with openers Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Amite Hasan receiving their maiden Test call-ups. The BCB announced the 15-man squad on Sunday, ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim, 25, has been one of Bangladesh’s most exciting white-ball performers in recent times but now gets his chance in the longest format. The left-handed opener has a solid first-class record to justify the selection, scoring 1,792 runs in 25 matches at an average of 40.72, including five centuries and six half-centuries.

Amite Hasan, 23, has been one of the most prolific batters in domestic cricket for several years. The right-handed middle-order bat has accumulated 3,650 runs in 49 first-class matches at an average of 49.32, with 11 centuries and 17 fifties. His most recent standout came in the Bangladesh Cricket League, where he scored 162 runs for East Zone to force the selectors’ hand. During the 2024-25 season alone, he scored 775 runs in seven matches for Sylhet Division at an average of 78.50.

Chairman of the national selection panel Kazi Habibul Bashar was effusive about both players.

“Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket. He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format,” he said.

On Amite, Bashar added: “He has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket. This format demands patience and discipline, and he has shown those qualities over a sustained period. Both these players have time on their side and can serve Bangladesh for a very long period.”

Alongside the two debutants, the squad sees the return of pace bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, both of whom last played Test cricket in November-December 2024. Off-spinner Naeem Hasan is also back after nearly a year away from the format.

Najmul Hossain Shanto leads the side, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz as vice-captain.

The first Test begins on 8 May at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, with the second Test following at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from 16 May. Both matches are part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
