Oussama Tannane scored a stunning goal from inside his own half as Morocco won the FIFA Arab Cup again. They beat Jordan 3-2 after extra time in the final in Qatar.
The goal came early. In the fourth minute, Tannane hit the ball from far beyond the halfway line. The shot surprised Jordan keeper Yazeed Abulaila and went in. The keeper crashed into the post while trying to recover. Play stopped for four minutes before he could continue.
Morocco started fast and controlled the first half. Tannane nearly scored again just before the break, but he failed to connect well and a defender cleared the ball off the line. Abulaila also made a strong save in the 17th minute to deny Karim El Berkaoui.
Jordan fought back after the break. Ali Oliwan scored with a close range header three minutes into the second half. Later, he struck again from the penalty spot in the 68th minute after a handball in the box. Jordan led for the first time and moved close to the title.
Morocco refused to give up. Abderrazak Hamdallah came on as a substitute and scored in the 88th minute. He tapped the ball in after a scramble from a corner to force extra time.
Jordan almost won it at the end of normal time. Oliwan ran clear on goal but failed to beat the keeper. The chance would have completed his hat trick.
Early in extra time, Jordan thought they had scored again. Mohannad Abutaha fired a fine left foot volley into the top corner. VAR later ruled the goal out for handball.
That decision hurt Jordan. Soon after, Morocco scored the winner. Hamdallah tapped in his second goal after Marwane Saadane’s overhead kick fell into his path from close range.
Morocco last won the Arab Cup in 2012. This win makes them champions again and replaces Algeria, who won the last edition.
The final took place in front of a packed Lusail Stadium in Doha. The 2025 FIFA Arab Cup sold more than one million tickets, which is double the total from the previous tournament.
Morocco will now focus on hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Their squad is expected to grow stronger with the return of players based in Europe.
