The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal as chairman of its newly formed Franchise League Committee, which will oversee plans for a proposed World Club T20 tournament featuring champion teams from franchise leagues around the world.
The appointment was confirmed in an ICC statement on Wednesday following the governing body’s Annual General Meeting. Tamim will work alongside several prominent cricket administrators on the committee.
The commiitte includes BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg, ECB chief executive Richard Gould and Cricket Namibia president Dr Rudie van Vuuren.
The Tamim-led committee will be responsible for overseeing the growth of franchise leagues worldwide, assessing their impact on the international calendar, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the tournaments and addressing player welfare concerns.
Earlier this year, Tamim attended an ICC meeting in Edinburgh during the Women’s T20 World Cup, where he was formally recognised as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board by cricket’s governing body.
