Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur said the country’s economy is currently stable, but sustained political stability would allow economic growth to proceed more smoothly.
He made the remarks on Saturday at a seminar organised by the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) in Tangail, aimed at improving access to banking services for rural poor communities.
Speaking on the progress of recovering embezzled funds, Mansur said lawyers have been deployed to the United Kingdom by various banks to establish claims against different groups of companies. “If successful, we can expect positive results soon,” he added.
The seminar was presided over by MRA Executive Vice Chairman Dr Mohammad Helal Uddin. Other speakers included Sonali Bank Managing Director Shawkat Ali Khan and BRAC Bank Additional Managing Director Syed Abdul Momen.
Chairpersons of several NGOs from across the country also attended the event.
