A special memorial programme will be held to honour eminent artist, writer and cultural thinker Professor Matlub Ali, a former dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University. The event will take place at the Shishu Jadughar Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shishu Academy on Sunday, January 11, at 5:00 pm.
Manab Shilpa Sahitya Sanskriti Gosthi organises the programme to celebrate his life, work and contributions to art, literature and culture.
Matlub Ali was a versatile creative figure, a painter, litterateur, lyricist and art critic. He also wrote the iconic mass song “Lanchhito Nipirito Janatar Joy Gan”, which remains a symbol of Bangladesh’s progressive cultural movement.
Several leading cultural and intellectual figures will attend the memorial and share their recollections. Speakers include artists Bulbon Osman, Abdul Mannan, Khushi Kabir, and Biren Shome, eminent singer Rafiqul Alam, Emeritus Professor Nazrul Islam, National Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, Liberation War Museum founder and researcher Mofidul Haque, educationist Kazi Madina, recitation artist Ashraful Alam, and artist Dilruba Papia.
In addition to the discussion session, singers will perform songs written by Matlub Ali.
Organisers invite artists, cultural activists and admirers to attend and pay tribute to the late artist.
