India Under-19s won the Under-19 World Cup on Sunday after defeating England Under-19s by 100 runs in the final, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi producing an incredible innings to decide the contest.
Batting first, India built a colossal total around Sooryavanshi’s extraordinary display of power and control. They moved quickly through the early overs, reaching 50 inside eight overs and ending the powerplay at 79 for 1, with England’s bowlers under sustained pressure from the outset.
Sooryavanshi set the tone with an aggressive half-century from 32 balls and continued to dominate as partnerships developed around him. The most decisive stand came alongside Ayush Mhatre, with the pair adding 100 runs in just 63 balls to completely shift the balance of the match.
The hundred arrived in only 55 deliveries, as Sooryavanshi mixed clean hitting with fearless intent. India crossed 150 in the 18th over and surged past 200 soon after, with the tempo continuing to rise even as wickets fell at the other end.
Unfazed by the loss of partners, Sooryavanshi accelerated further, bringing up 150 from 71 balls. His final innings of 175 from 80 deliveries included 15 fours and 15 sixes, delivered at a strike rate of 218.75. India passed 300, then 350, before closing on a towering 411 for 9 from their 50 overs, one of the highest totals in Under-19 World Cup history.
England’s response was spirited but always fighting the scale of the task. They made a positive start, reaching 64 for 1 in the powerplay and passing 100 inside 14 overs. Ben Dawkins provided early stability before Caleb Falconer launched a remarkable counterattack.
Falconer’s innings stood out in defeat. He reached his half-century from just 26 balls and later brought up a century from 63 deliveries, finishing with 115 from 67 balls. His aggression briefly kept England in the contest as they passed 250 and later 300.
However, the required rate continued to climb and wickets fell regularly. Despite moments of resistance, the chase never truly threatened India’s control and England were eventually bowled out for 311 in 40.2 overs.
The final belonged to Sooryavanshi. His innings not only set up the victory but came to define the tournament, sealing another Under-19 World Cup title for India and marking him out as a player of rare promise on the global stage.
