Sofía Vergara was forced to bow out of the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night after a sudden medical scare sent her to the hospital.
The ‘Griselda’ star had been scheduled to present Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, but instead, ‘Hunting Wives’ duo Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow stepped in to announce the winner.
Not long after the ceremony wrapped, Vergara explained her absence in an Instagram update, sharing a close-up of her swollen eye and two clips from the ER. “Didn’t make it to the Emmys but made it to the ER,” she captioned. “Sorry I had to cancel! Craziest eye allergy right before getting in the car!”
In her place, Akerman and Snow presented the Emmy to Stephen Graham for his performance in Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’.
The acclaimed psychological drama swept six awards overall, including Best Limited or Anthology Series, while 15-year-old co-star Owen Cooper made history as the youngest male actor to ever win an Emmy.
Other big winners of the night included ‘The Studio’, which walked away with four trophies, among them best comedy actor for Seth Rogen; ‘The Pitt’, which secured best drama series; and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, honored as best talk series just weeks after CBS announced its cancellation.
