Actress and model Snigdha Chowdhury has apologised after facing widespread criticism on social media over remarks she made while describing an alleged assault involving Ashiyan City Chairman Nazrul Islam.
Snigdha recently accused Nazrul Islam of assaulting and harassing her and subsequently filed a case against him.
Following the incident, she held a press conference where she recounted her experience but also made several remarks that drew sharp criticism online.
During the briefing, the actress said that her boyfriend and his associates escorted her wherever she went.
She also stated that she lived in Banani and used a car that “would not enter Mirpur”, a comment many social media users interpreted as disrespectful towards the area.
In another remark, she claimed that if anything happened to her, she would “bring the whole country down”, which was widely seen as an attempt to imply her boyfriend’s influence.
The comments quickly went viral, triggering widespread trolling and debate online.
Many netizens argued that the controversial statements overshadowed the seriousness of her allegations and shifted public attention away from the incident she had described.
Following the backlash, Snigdha issued a public apology in a Facebook post, expressing regret for her remarks.
“In this difficult period of my life, your compassion, encouragement and good wishes have deeply moved me. I am sincerely grateful to everyone who stood by me during this challenging time,” she wrote.
She explained that she had been compelled to hold the press conference under extremely sensitive circumstances and had spoken candidly while emotionally distressed.
“However, I never intended to disrespect or belittle anyone through my words. If any of my colleagues or members of the modelling community were hurt by what I said, I sincerely apologise and express my heartfelt regret,” the actress added.
Her apology has since generated mixed reactions on social media.
While some users appreciated her acknowledgement of the issue, others continued to criticise the remarks made during the press conference.
