The “Smart Meter System Pilot Project for Smart Water Management (SWM)” was officially launched on Wednesday at 9am at Buriganga Multipurpose Hall of Dhaka WASA Bhaban, aiming to enhance urban water management efficiency and sustainability.
Adilur Rahman Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives, graced the event as chief guest.
Special Guests included Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, secretary of the Local Government Division, and Haejung Kim, charge d’affaires of the Korean embassy in Dhaka.
The ceremony was chaired by Engr Md Abdus Salam Bapary, managing director of Dhaka WASA.
The event began with a video showcasing the activities of Dhaka WASA, followed by a technical presentation on the smart meter system and its implementation. A special session on the Sustainable DMA Management Tool was also delivered.
Speakers highlighted the system’s potential to reduce water loss, detect illegal connections, ensure billing transparency, and improve customer service.
They expressed confidence that the pilot project would play a pivotal role in advancing water management in Dhaka.
The chief guest stressed the importance of adopting smart technologies to improve efficiency and accountability in urban water management, adding that the project’s success would lay the foundation for the future expansion of smart metering systems across the city.
The event concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks by Engr Md Abdus Salam Bapary.
