Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has told its national team to continue the ongoing ODI series in Pakistan despite concerns after a deadly suicide blast in Islamabad earlier this week.
Several players wanted to return home due to safety fears, which led to an urgent meeting between the team management and the board. The team management informed SLC early Thursday about the players’ worries over the situation in Rawalpindi, which is close to the site of the explosion.
SLC immediately spoke with the touring party and assured them that their safety is the board’s top priority. The board said it is working closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and local security forces to ensure full protection for the players and staff.
The PCB has promised strong security measures, treating the Sri Lankan team as state guests. Reports say extra protection has been deployed, including military and paramilitary guards, as Pakistan aims to maintain confidence in hosting international matches.
SLC has taken a strict stand against any disruption to the series. It has instructed all players, coaches, and officials to stay in Pakistan and complete the scheduled games. The board also warned that anyone who leaves without permission will be replaced right away.
SLC added that any such actions will face formal review once the team returns home, and disciplinary steps may follow.
