The government has dismissed six senior police officers from service, including former joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker and Assistant Police Commissioner Md Golam Ruhani.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued six separate notifications to this effect on Wednesday, signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury by order of acting president.
According to the notifications, the dismissed officials include Biplob Kumar Sarker, former joint police commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), who was attached to Barishal Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) office, and Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, another former DMP joint police commissioner who was also attached to Barishal Range DIG office.
Also dismissed are Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, former deputy commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Wari Division, currently attached to Khulna Range DIG office; Kazi Ashraful Azim, former DC of DMP’s Uttara Division, attached to Chattogram Range DIG office; and Rajan Kumar Das, additional superintendent of police of Cox’s Bazar Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
The list of dismissed officers also includes Md Golam Ruhani, former assistant police commissioner of DMP. He is the younger brother of Golam Rabbani, the former general secretary of Chhatra League.
