Pabna Sadar MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, on Wednesday inspected various bus terminals and depot sites across the capital as part of an initiative to mitigate traffic congestion and bring discipline to the public transport sector.
Leading a high-level delegation, the MP visited Purbachal, Diabari, Gabtoli Bus Terminal, Chunkutia, Tegharia Underpass, Hasnabad, Kanchpur, and Fulbaria to assess their suitability.
The inspection team comprised several top government officials, including Home Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division Anisur Rahman, and Additional Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department AKM Azad Rahman.
Also in attendance were BRTA Chairman Mohammad Habibur Rahman, RAJUK Chairman Reazul Islam, Dhaka North City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Ashaduz Zaman, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anisur Rahman.
Representatives from key transport organisations also joined the visit, including Saiful Alam, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association; MA Baten, President of the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association.
Also present were Humayun Kabir Khan, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation; Md Hanif, General Secretary of the Bus-Truck Owners Association; and Faruk Talukdar Sohel, former chairman of the Bus-Truck Owners Association.
During the tour, the delegation conducted a thorough review of existing infrastructure, vehicle handling capacity, connectivity via link roads, and land availability for the establishment of future terminals and depots.
Based on these findings, Shimul Biswas issued specific directives intended to improve traffic management and ensure a more effective and orderly public transport system for the residents of Dhaka.
