Shakti Foundation carried out a tree plantation drive and provided free healthcare as Environment and Health Partner at the Chaitra Sankranti and Pahela Boishakh celebrations at Hatirjheel.
The two-day festival was organised by Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha and GRUS Event at the Hatirjheel Amphitheatre and adjacent areas, the organisation said in a press release.
The plantation programme began on Monday at a park beside the Hatirjheel Management Building.
Housing and Public Works State Minister Ahmmad Sohel Manjur Suman, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam and Shakti Foundation Deputy Executive Director Imran Ahmed attended the event.
Shakti Foundation Deputy Executive Director Imran Ahmed said the organisation has planted 24,000 trees in the capital under its partnership with RAJUK.
He said the plan is to plant another 26,000 trees by June and reach 5,00,000 trees by 2030 to support a greener capital.
The organisation distributed saplings among children participating in a painting competition during the festival.
It also operated a Health Corner and Mobile Health Clinic, providing free services to 148 visitors.
The services included diabetes screening, blood pressure checks, haemoglobin tests, doctor consultations and emergency care.
Shakti Foundation has planted nearly 4,000 trees and plants across the Hatirjheel area under the ongoing initiative.
The Dhaka-based development organisation works on climate change, urban greening, healthcare and financial inclusion through partnerships with government and civil society.
