Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has secured a direct contract with Uppsala Tigers to play in Sweden’s first-ever franchise T20 league, the Nordic Smash T20.
The Nordic Smash T20 will feature six teams with players from multiple countries, including notable cricketers like Tom Bruce and Sheldon Cotterel. Shakib’s signing was confirmed prior to the player draft, marking a major boost for Uppsala Tigers ahead of the inaugural season.
The franchise expressed excitement on Instagram, writing:
“We are thrilled to announce our most awaited signing of Shakib al Hasan ahead of the draft. Bangladeshi star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will feature in the inaugural Nordic Smash T20.”
The first season of the Nordic Smash T20 will take place this summer, beginning with the opening match on 15 June and concluding with the final on 20 June. India’s World Cup-winning cricketer Munaf Patel will serve as the tournament’s brand ambassador.
Although Shakib is currently outside the Bangladesh national team, he continues to play regularly in franchise leagues around the world, including the CPL, Abu Dhabi T10, and ILT20, maintaining his presence as a top all-rounder in T20 cricket.
