Earlier in the morning, three donation chests and three donation pots at the shrine were opened after their seals were removed.
Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said that, besides the cash amount, the collected foreign currencies included 31 pounds and 11 pence, 3,248 Indian rupees, 60 Pakistani rupees, 70 Saudi riyals, 83 Malaysian ringgit, four US dollars, 100 Nepali rupees, 1,000 baisa, one Omani rial, 64 dirhams and 22 fils, 250 Iraqi dinars, 90 Turkish lira, 1,000 Vietnamese dong, 1,000 Japanese yen, 112 Qatari riyals and 50 dirhams, 10 Lebanese pounds, 10 Egyptian pounds, 40 euro cents, one Bahraini fils and one Canadian dollar.
The shrine authorities maintain separate records of livestock and poultry donated as offerings, including cows, goats, ducks and chickens.
Earlier, on 12 June, then Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md Sarwar Alam initiated steps to ensure transparency and accountability in the income and expenditure of the Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) shrines after visiting the sites.
Later, on his instructions, the three old donation pots were sealed and new donation boxes were installed on 18 June, triggering discussions and criticism across the country. Amid the controversy, the government withdrew Sarwar Alam from his post.
Despite the withdrawal order, Sarwar Alam led the first-ever public counting of shrine donations in its 700-year history on 22 June.
