TOB Report

After a prolonged 40-day holiday for Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, all schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical education institutions across Bangladesh will reopen on Wednesday, 9 April.

Educational campuses are set to come back to life, with classrooms buzzing once again and the familiar sound of school bells marking the return to academic routine.

According to the 2025 academic calendar, this extended break had been scheduled in advance. The education ministry outlined the school year on 23 December last year, combining holidays for Ramadan, Doljatra, Independence Day, Shab-e-Qadr, and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The last day of classes before the break was 27 February. Since then, institutions have remained closed, including during weekly holidays, resulting in a continuous 40-day shutdown.

Many schools and colleges have accumulated dust and dirt during the closure. In preparation for reopening, several institutions have already begun cleaning and maintenance work. Final efforts are underway to ensure classrooms are ready before students return.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) confirmed that regular classes will resume in full from 9 April. Students who have yet to receive their new textbooks will be provided with them upon return. Teachers have been instructed to take special measures to address the academic gap caused by the long break.

Meanwhile, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations are scheduled to begin on 10 April. The DSHE will issue specific guidelines for institutions designated as examination centres. While classes will be suspended during exam hours, officials are considering holding brief afternoon sessions once the exams conclude in the morning.

Education authorities hope that the return to classrooms will reinvigorate academic activities and help students quickly get back on track following the extended holiday.
