Schoolboy’s body recovered 16 hours after falling into Meherpur’s Bhairab River

The body of a schoolboy who went missing after falling into the Bhairab River in Meherpur was recovered on Friday morning, 16 hours after the incident.

On Thursday around 2 pm, 12-year-old Mohayeminul Islam alias Chhoto Babu went to bathe in the river with three friends near Kutubpur village. Witnesses said he slipped into the water while sitting on the bank, although he could not swim.

Locals searched until midnight but failed to find him. The following morning, Fire Service personnel, assisted by residents, recovered his body from the river at around 7 am.

The deceased was identified as the son of Shimul Hossain of Shuborajpur village in Meherpur Sadar upazila.

Mezbah Uddin, officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, said police were informed after the recovery and an investigation into the incident is underway.
