A fresh development has emerged in the 2024 firing case outside Bollywood star Salman Khan’s Mumbai residence, with alleged accused Anmol Bishnoi seeking permission to surrender before a special court to face trial.
According to The Hindu, Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has filed a plea before a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai, requesting permission to surrender “in the interest of a fair trial and justice”.
Anmol is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail after he was deported from the United States in November last year and later arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is wanted in several high-profile criminal cases, including the firing outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments residence in Bandra, which Mumbai Police are investigating.
In his application, Anmol said he wished to voluntarily surrender before the court to face the ongoing trial and participate in the judicial proceedings. He argued that he remains under lawful custody in the NIA case and cannot appear before the Mumbai court without an appropriate judicial order.
He also requested the court to issue a production warrant to Tihar Jail so he can be produced before the court. His plea stated that no prejudice would be caused to the prosecution and that his appearance would instead help expedite the trial while preventing misuse of the legal process.
The application noted that the trial has already begun and that three witnesses have been examined in his absence.
According to The Hindu, two motorcycle-borne men, later identified as Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, allegedly opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Bandra residence on the morning of 14 April 2024.
Gupta, Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohammad Rafiq Choudhari and Harpal Singh remain in judicial custody. Another accused, Anujkumar Thapan, died by suicide while in police custody. Lawrence Bishnoi also remains a wanted accused in the case.
