A viral video showing a police officer slapping a teenager during a special anti-drug operation at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka has sparked widespread criticism on social media. The footage, captured during the operation on Monday (February 23) night, led many netizens to express outrage over the behaviour of law enforcement officers.
Among those speaking out was actress Sabnam Faria, who shared a screenshot of the video on Facebook and criticised the incident. In her post, she wrote, “The law and order situation in the country requires you to search and interrogate; this is your job. But why raise your hands? People’s trust and respect in you is lost because Hudai abuses his power.”
Faria went on to emphasise the importance of mutual respect between citizens and law enforcement. “As citizens, we want to respect and trust the law and order forces. We want you to be genuinely engaged in serving us and maintaining law and order. But at the same time, we must also be treated with respect and provided with security,” she added.
The video has reignited debates online about the conduct of police during anti-drug operations and the need for accountability to maintain public trust.
