Veteran actor Masud Parvez Sohel Rana was moved to tears after his younger brother, actor Masum Parvez Rubel, gifted him an expensive watch that fulfilled a wish he had made nearly 40 years ago.
In 1985, Sohel Rana travelled to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment, accompanied by Rubel and director Shahidul Islam Khokon.
After being told he was completely healthy, the three went out to explore Singapore and visited a watch shop.
Sohel Rana, who has always been fond of expensive watches, was wearing a Rado worth around Tk30,000 at the time.
At the showroom, he saw a Patek Philippe watch priced at around Tk750,000. Shocked by the price, he eventually bought a Bucherer watch for Tk50,000.
However, Rubel noticed that his brother kept looking at the Patek Philippe.
Nearly four decades later, Rubel remembered the moment and travelled to Bangkok to buy his brother an expensive European watch.
On Thursday, Rubel visited Sohel Rana’s home in Uttara and surprised him with the gift.
“Patek Philippe was beyond my reach, but I got you this—the watch you had wanted,” Rubel told him.
Sohel Rana embraced his brother after receiving the gift.
“Money is not the issue. The fact that my younger brother remembered what I wanted after all these years means so much to me,” he said.
He added that although he owns several watches, Rubel’s gift will now be the one he wears most.
