Former Jubo Dal leader Ishaque Sarker, content creator Nuruzzaman Kafi, social activist Mohiuddin Roni, and Fersamin Haque Iqbal (Flora) on Friday joined National Citizen Party (NCP).
The NCP leaders, including Convener Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, Nasiruddin Patwary, and Sarjis Alam welcomed them in a ceremony held at Diploma Engineers Institution auditorium in the capital.
Flora, the granddaughter of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, participated in the event online from California, United States.
Ishaque has a long-standing political career with BNP, having served as the central organising secretary of both the party’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, and its youth wing, Jubo Dal.
Reports indicate that he faced over 300 cases during the Awami League regime due to his active involvement in political movements, though he was subsequently acquitted by the courts in various instances.
During the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Ishaque sought a BNP nomination for the Dhaka-7 seat.
After failing to secure the nomination, he contested the polls as an independent candidate, which led to his expulsion from the BNP on charges of breaching party discipline.
According to NCP sources, Ishaque is expected to be assigned a significant organisational role within the party, with plans reportedly in place to appoint him as the convener of Dhaka Metropolitan South.
The sources said the current convener Alauddin Mohammad may resign to facilitate this transition.
Among the other new members, Roni gained widespread recognition for his movements against irregularities and corruption within the railway sector, a role that has made him a discussed figure among the youth.
Meanwhile, Kafi has earned popularity through the creation of awareness-based and content-driven videos on social media platforms.
