Hobart Hurricanes secured a 37-run win over Adelaide Strikers on 9 January 2026, with Bangladesh’s young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain producing a match-winning performance.

After going wicketless in his previous two games against the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder, Rishad returned to form, claiming three crucial wickets for just 26 runs in four overs.

Chasing 171, Adelaide lost wickets at regular intervals from the outset. Riley Meredith put the Strikers under early pressure, dismissing Matthew Short and Mackenzie Hardie in the second over. Nathan Ellis continued the assault in the next over, removing both Chris Lynn and Jason Sangar, leaving Adelaide reeling at 8 for 4.

Harry Manenti and Liam Scott attempted to stabilise the innings, but Rishad made his mark when introduced by captain Ellis in the sixth over. Manenti struck a six early in the over, yet Rishad dismissed him at square leg later in the same over, leaving him with just three runs from seven balls.

Rishad returned to bowl in the ninth over and immediately dismissed Jamie Overton, who was stumped for eight. Despite conceding 11 runs in that over, he came back strongly in the 15th over to remove Lud Wood, completing a three-wicket haul that proved decisive.

Scott remained unbeaten on 11, guiding Hobart to victory. Alongside Rishad, Nathan Ellis and Moses Wright also contributed with two wickets each, helping Hobart maintain their position at the top of the Big Bash points table after eight matches, having won six of them.
