Real Madrid have continued their summer rebuild by signing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to €140 million (£120m), with the teenager committing his future to the Spanish giants on a seven-year contract.
The transfer ends weeks of speculation over the 19-year-old’s future. Paris Saint-Germain had emerged as favourites before pulling out after Leipzig rejected an improved offer, while Liverpool also failed in their pursuit earlier in the window.
If every performance-related bonus is triggered, Diomande’s move will exceed the fee Madrid agreed to pay for Jude Bellingham in 2023. It would also make the Ivory Coast international the most expensive African footballer in history, surpassing Nicolas Pépé’s transfer record.
Diomande becomes Real Madrid’s sixth signing under returning head coach Jose Mourinho, joining Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Carlos Espi.
The winger described the move as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.
“This is a childhood dream come true,” Diomande said while thanking Leipzig for making the transfer possible.
Diomande arrives after an outstanding breakthrough season in Germany. He won the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season award after scoring 12 league goals and providing eight assists. Across all competitions, he registered 13 goals and 10 assists in his first full campaign with Leipzig.
He also featured in all four of Ivory Coast’s matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the round of 32.
Madrid view the teenager as one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers. Comfortable on either wing, Diomande combines pace, close control and creativity with a growing eye for goal. His versatility also gives Mourinho another option across the front line.
