Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Saturday accused a faction of attempting to form a parallel party and claim the party’s election symbol. He vowed that if necessary, he would fight for the party’s rights even with his own blood and said he would never accept conspiracies against the party.
Quader made the remarks while addressing a rally of party workers in front of the Jatiya Party central office. He also criticised the current government’s handling of elections, saying, “Even DUCSU and JUCSU polls were not made acceptable to all. How can they ensure a national election is credible?”
The JaPa chairman further alleged that the present administration has, in many ways, surpassed Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarianism. “I see no difference from the previous government. Whatever they call fascism or authoritarianism, it is all visible here, even more than Sheikh Hasina’s rule. The nation is in a dangerous situation,” he said.
He also criticised the misuse of the Liberation War narrative. “Previously, the government used the Liberation War for political gains, labeling anyone who spoke differently as anti-liberation. Now, it’s the opposite those supporting the Liberation War are being sidelined. The people will not accept this. BNP leaders have even been suspended for speaking in favor of the Liberation War, showing the pressure on opposition voices,” Quader added.
Quader accused the government of conducting one-sided elections. “The BNP and Jamaat were excluded strategically. Now the law is being used to bar many more parties. An election excluding half the population will never be accepted domestically or internationally. The country will face a deep crisis.”
He also said that the public has risen against Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian rule, but after her fall, students claimed sole credit for victory and denied the people any share in it.
The rally was chaired by Mir Abdus Sabur Asud, Jatiya Party Dhaka Metropolitan South convener. Other attendees included party Secretary General Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary and Presidium member Haji Saifuddin Ahmed Milon.
