Police in Rampura have busted a motorcycle theft ring, recovering seven stolen bikes and arresting four of its active members following a case filed over a recent theft in the capital.
The investigation began after a Suzuki Gixxer SF 150cc motorcycle, owned by Md Sahal Bin Rafiq, 38, was stolen from Road No 6, Block C in Banasree on 10 April. The bike is valued at Tk3,20,000.
Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and identified members of the organised theft ring. Acting on technical and intelligence inputs, they recovered the stolen motorcycle from Danga Bazar under Palash Police Station in Narsingdi and arrested Md Zahidul Islam, 34.
Zahidul, son of late Md Falu Mia and Mosammat Zahura Begum, is a resident of Belabo in Narsingdi and currently lives as a tenant in the Tongi East Police Station area of Gazipur.
During interrogation, Zahidul provided key information that led police to Khan Motors in Danga Bazar, where they recovered four more stolen motorcycles — one MT-15, one XBlade, one Suzuki Gixxer and one Fazer.
Police also arrested the shop owner, Safiullah Khan, 29, son of Haji Md Hedayet Ullah and Mosammat Khadija Begum, on 20 April for purchasing stolen vehicles.
Further leads from Zahidul’s statement helped police track down another member of the gang, Oli Ullah, 28, son of Md Sadeq Mia and Sharifa of Hazarinagar in Kuliarchar, Kishoreganj. He was arrested on the night of 19 April from Bishnandi ferry ghat under Araihazar Police Station in Narayanganj, along with a stolen Apache RTR motorcycle.
In continued operations based on information from the arrested suspects, police detained another active member, Gazi Sagar, 27, from the same area. He is the son of Gazi Bacchu Mia and Ferdousi Begum of Akanagar, Salimganj, under Banchharampur in Brahmanbaria. A grey-white MT-15 motorcycle was recovered from his possession.
So far, police have arrested four members of the theft ring, including the owner of Khan Motors, and recovered a total of seven stolen motorcycles. All the accused have been sent to court.
Police said operations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.
