Bangladeshi film star Dilara Hanif Purnima has reflected on the long-standing bias against film actors working in television, saying she never allowed such perceptions to define her career choices.
Recently, Purnima’s film ‘Ahaare Jibon’ was released. Speaking about her journey in a recent interview, the actress noted that she has worked across films, dramas, telefilms and OTT platforms over more than two decades, despite criticism early on that film heroines should avoid the small screen.
She recalled being told that appearing in television projects would harm her prospects in cinema, but said she never subscribed to that mindset.
Purnima added that acting has always been her priority, regardless of format, and described drama and telefilms as a comfortable creative space for her. She also expressed interest in continuing to work on strong stories, particularly projects centred around festive seasons like Eid.
The actress made her debut at just 15 with A Jibon Tomar Amar, opposite Ferdous Ahmed, and went on to establish herself as one of Dhallywood’s leading names. Over the years, she has starred alongside top actors including Riaz, Manna, Shakib Khan, Rubel and Amin Khan.
With nearly a hundred films to her credit, her notable works include ‘Moner Majhe Tumi’, ‘Ora Amake Bhalo Hote Dilo Na’ and ‘Madhur Milon’. She also received the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Ora Amake Bhalo Hote Dilo Na’, directed by Kazi Hayat.
