A police inspector in Noakhali’s Hatiya upazila has been withdrawn and attached to the district police lines after allegations of raping a 12‑year‑old girl.

The move followed circulation on social media of a video showing the victim and her mother’s statements against Khorshed Alam, also in‑charge of a local police investigation centre.

Media reports said the girl’s mother worked as a cook at the centre’s mess, which is why the child used to go there.

In her statement, the child alleged repeated abuse under threats of violence and death, often being summoned under the pretext of work. The matter was initially kept secret but became known on 5 January.

The victim’s mother said she had informed a local circle officer earlier, but no action was taken. Instead, influential locals intimidated them and forced signatures on blank papers.

The family has since fled their home, citing lack of security.

Hatiya Police Station’s Officer‑in‑Charge Md Kabir Hossain said no evidence had been found earlier to support such allegations. However, after the video circulated, the officer was immediately withdrawn.

Police are now trying to contact the victim’s family to initiate a fresh investigation, as no written or verbal complaint is currently filed.
