Phil Salt lit up Old Trafford with a stunning display on Friday. The opener smashed an unbeaten 141 runs off just 60 balls, the fastest hundred and the highest score by an England batter in T20 internationals. England crushed South Africa by 146 runs to level the three-match series 1-1. The night turned into a record-breaking show. 1. England posted 304/2, their highest total in men’s T20Is. The previous best was 267 for 3 against West Indies in 2023. The 304/2 is also the highest-ever T20I total against an ICC full member nation.
2. Salt’s 141* also set a new record for the highest individual score by an England player in T20Is. He broke his own mark of 119 made against West Indies last year.
3. England batters were ruthless. They scored 228 runs in boundaries, the third-highest by any team in a men’s T20I.
4. The win margin was massive. The 146-run triumph is England’s biggest ever in men’s T20Is.
5. Fans also witnessed the highest combined total for a T20I in England. Both sides together scored 462 runs in Manchester.
6. Salt reached his century in only 39 balls. It is the fastest hundred ever for England in this format.
7. It was also a tough night for South Africa’s bowlers. Kagiso Rabada gave away 70 runs. Marco Jansen conceded 60. Lizaad Williams was hit for 62. It was the first time in men’s T20 history that three bowlers in one innings went for 60 or more.
