Four BNP candidates have filed petitions in the High Court challenging the results of the 13th parliamentary election in Rajshahi‑1, Kurigram‑2, Rangpur‑6, and Rangpur‑4 constituencies.
The petitioners are Sohel Hosnain Kaikobad (Kurigram‑2), Md. Saiful Islam (Rangpur‑6), Mohammad Emdadul Haque Bhorsa (Rangpur‑4), and Major General (Retd) Md Sharif Uddin (Rajshahi‑1).
Hearings on these petitions are scheduled for Monday before the single bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain.
Earlier, on Sunday, the High Court accepted separate petitions for hearing from BNP candidate DMD Ziaur and BNP’s Pabna‑4 candidate Md. Habibur Rahman Habib.
In addition, the court on Thursday accepted four other petitions concerning Sherpur‑1, Dhaka‑6, Dhaka‑7, and Gaibandha‑4 constituencies. The petitioners are BNP’s Sansila Zebrin (Sherpur‑1), Jamaat‑e‑Islami’s Md Abdul Mannan (Dhaka‑6), Jamaat’s Md Enayat Ullah (Dhaka‑7), and Jamaat’s Md Abdur Rahim Sarkar (Gaibandha‑4).
According to Section 49 of the Representation of the People Order, petitions regarding alleged irregularities in national elections are heard by election tribunals formed in the High Court.
