A Pakistan player has reportedly been fined after an alleged incident with a female hotel staff member during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 in Sri Lanka. The Pakistan Cricket Board may also review the matter once the team returns home.
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, the incident happened during Pakistan’s stay in Kandy. It took place before Pakistan played their final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka.
The report says the management of Golden Crown Hotel raised a complaint with Pakistan team manager Naveed Cheema. Cheema later apologized to the hotel management. He also fined the player and handled the matter within the team for the time being.
The report adds that the player behaved in an improper way with a female housekeeping staff member at the hotel. The staff member raised an alarm. Other hotel workers came quickly and helped control the situation.
Hotel staff later informed Naveed Cheema about what had happened. After speaking with the management, Cheema decided to fine the player. The report also says the player may face a formal inquiry from the Pakistan Cricket Board after returning to Pakistan.
This is not the first time a Pakistan cricketer has faced trouble away from the field. Last year, Pakistan Shaheens batter Haider Ali was arrested by Greater Manchester Police during a tour of England over rape allegations. Later, the charges were dropped and the case was closed due to lack of evidence.
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign also ended in disappointment. The team failed to reach the semifinals.
Pakistan needed a big win against Sri Lanka in their final Super 8 match to improve their net run rate. They won the match but the margin was not large enough to move into the next round.
It was the fourth straight ICC event where Pakistan failed to reach the knockout stage. After the tournament ended, the squad returned to Pakistan in batches on Sunday and Monday.
