Shan Masood blamed Pakistan’s mistakes across the first three innings after Bangladesh national cricket team sealed a 2-0 Test series win in Sylhet.
Bangladesh posted 278 and 390 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium and set Pakistan a target of 437. Pakistan collapsed for 232 in the first innings and finished on 358 in the chase despite Mohammad Rizwan’s 94.
Masud pointed to Pakistan’s failures before the final innings fightback.
“Too many mistakes happened. When you score 360 runs in the fourth innings of a Test match, you normally expect the result to go your way. But I think we need to look at the first three innings. Those mistakes pushed us back and made the target much bigger.”
Pakistan lost control of the match after Bangladesh recovered from 116-6 in the first innings. Litton Das led the counterattack with a century and turned a collapse into a competitive total.
Masud admitted Pakistan failed to close the innings down.
“Again, especially when they were 116 for 6, they added a lot of runs with the last four wickets. We missed our chances.”
Pakistan also wasted a strong batting position in their first innings. They reached 142-4 with two set batters at the crease but failed to build a large score. Bangladesh’s bowlers slowed the scoring rate through the middle overs and forced Pakistan into risky strokes against spin.
Masud said Pakistan failed to produce decisive innings when the match demanded them.
“Then in batting, when we were 142 for 4 and two set batters were there, in Test cricket you have to play big innings. The mistakes we made in the first three innings meant the effort on days four and five could not turn into victory.”
