A new leadership chapter began at Dhaka Bank with the appointment of seasoned banker Osman Ershad Faiz as managing director and CEO, effective 11 January.
With more than three decades of international banking experience, Faiz is expected to guide the bank through strategy, technology, operations and digital transformation, the bank said in a press release on Sunday.
Before joining Dhaka Bank, he served as additional managing director and chief operating officer of Eastern Bank, a role he assumed in January last year.
Earlier in his career, he co-founded Asia FiiT, an international banking and fintech advisory firm headquartered in Singapore.
His global professional journey includes senior leadership roles such as chief information and operating officer of AMTD Digital and managing director and chief operating officer of Standard Chartered Bank Singapore.
At Standard Chartered Bank, he also served as managing director and chief information officer for wholesale banking in the eastern hemisphere.
Beyond banking operations, Faiz spent five years as a director of the Singapore Clearing House Association.
Recognition for his leadership in technology and inclusive workplaces came with the “Legend” Award at the World CIO 200 Summit in 2023.
Global acknowledgment of his advocacy for women in business followed through multiple listings in the HERoes Global Role Model rankings.
Since 2015, he has been a fellow of the Institute of Banking and Finance in Singapore.
Academically, Faiz holds a bachelor of commerce (honours) degree and an MBA from Aligarh Muslim University.
In addition to his formal education, he completed executive programmes at INSEAD and the University of Oxford Saïd Business School.
His professional career began in 1993 when he joined American Express as a management trainee.
Welcoming the appointment, Dhaka Bank Chairman Abdul Hai Sarker said the decision comes at a defining moment for Bangladesh’s banking sector.
According to the chairman, strong governance, disciplined execution and technology-led transformation are now more important than ever.
Confidence was expressed by the board that Faiz would sharpen the bank’s strategic focus, strengthen its balance sheet and accelerate digital and SME growth.
Responding to his appointment, Faiz said he was honoured by the trust placed in him by the board of Dhaka Bank.
Looking ahead, he said his priorities would include strengthening trust with clients and regulators, modernising platforms and improving services.
Established in 1995, Dhaka Bank is one of the country’s leading private-sector banks with operations spanning corporate, retail, commercial, SME and Islamic banking.
Through its subsidiaries, Dhaka Bank Securities and Dhaka Bank Investment, the bank also provides capital-market and merchant banking services.
