The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education Bangladesh has finalised the draft ordinance for the establishment of Dhaka Central University and sent it to the Cabinet Division Bangladesh for approval.
Officials said the ordinance is expected to receive authorisation from the relevant authorities within a short time.
Confirming the development, Interim Administrator of the proposed Dhaka Central University Professor AKM Elias told TIMES of Bangladesh on Sunday that he expects the Cabinet Division to approve the ordinance within the week.
He said the ordinance would then be formally issued through the prescribed legal process.
Before finalising the draft, the Secondary and Higher Education Division carried out a detailed review process, which included seeking opinions from different ministries and departments, collecting public feedback through notices published on its website, and holding consultation meetings with teachers, students and civil society representatives, alongside expert input.
In a press release, the division said the ordinance is now at the final stage of approval and urged all concerned to refrain from activities or programmes that could cause public inconvenience or disrupt normal civic life.
The Ministry of Education said it remains hopeful that, through patience and cooperation from all stakeholders, Dhaka Central University can formally begin operations soon, opening a new chapter for the expansion of higher education in Bangladesh.
