Michael Olise made World Cup history during France’s third place match against England.
The French playmaker gave two assists in France’s 6-4 defeat on Sunday. His passes helped Kylian Mbappe score twice in the second half.
Those assists took Olise’s total to seven in the 2026 World Cup. He became the player with the most assists in a single World Cup tournament. He moved past Pele, whose record had stood since the 1970 World Cup.
Olise entered the match with five assists. He first set up Mbappe’s goal to equal Pele’s mark. He then created another goal for the France captain to claim the record on his own.
The 24 year old enjoyed an outstanding first World Cup campaign. His vision, passing and creativity played a key role in France’s run to the last four.
Olise’s record came on the same night that Mbappe became the World Cup’s all time leading scorer with 22 goals.
