Police have arrested seven individuals, including Masud Rana, general secretary of the North South University(NSU) unit of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL).
All detainees are reportedly leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliated organisations. The arrests were confirmed on Thursday by Dhaka Metropolitan Police(DMP) Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Muhammad Talebur Rahman. Police is yet to disclosed where or when they were arrested.
In September 2022, Bangladesh Chhatra League(BCL) formed committees in 16 private universities, including North South University(NSU). At that time, law student Ashiqur Rahman Ashiq was appointed president of the North South University(NSU) committee, while BBA marketing student Masud Rana became general secretary.
