It is difficult for Bangladesh to remain unprepared, and adopting a stance of inaction would be a suicidal approach in light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said on Wednesday.

“Like many others, I am also against any kind of war in the world. But we live in a world where the threat of war constantly looms,” he said while delivering a guiding speech for the members of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF).

The head of the interim government, which assumed office in August last year, referred to the deteriorating situation between India and Pakistan, citing media reports that pointed to a war-like environment.
Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours have been mounting, raising concerns across the region about the potential fallout of any military conflict.

Yunus was observing maneuvers of the Bangladesh Air Force at BAF Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker.

The chief adviser noted that while war is always “very expensive”, it is essential to intensify efforts towards greater preparedness, particularly given the current geopolitical context.
