National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organiser (northern region) Sarjis Alam has said the party has no objection to foreigners operating Chattogram port if transparency and accountability are ensured.

He was speaking to reporters on Saturday night in Alowakhoya union of Atwari in Panchagarh after announcing the party’s union committee.

He said, “The party demands clear oversight. The port is not going anywhere. Good management will benefit the country.”

Criticising decades of political control at Chattogram port, he said, “Certain groups created syndicates that chose which cargo could unload. They encouraged bribery, caused long delays and damaged goods.”

He called for wider public representation in parliament. The NCP does not require MPs to have formal education. Farmers, rickshaw-pullers, labourers and people from other professions can serve without weakening parliament.

“They would voice the real struggles of ordinary citizens. Many long-serving MPs have forgotten those hardships. That is why we need representation from common people,” he added.
