Police arrested a night watchman for illegally collecting and hoarding fuel to sell at high prices on the black market in Sundarganj, Gaibandha.
Sundarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaheen Mohammad Amanullah confirmed the matter on Saturday. The arrestee has been identified as Md Sumon Sardar, 37. He was arrested from the Sundarganj Filling Station on Friday.
Police then produced Sumon before the court at around 11am. The court denied his bail application and ordered him to be sent to prison.
According to police and local sources, Sumon had long been involved in the illegal collection of petrol and octane from various filling stations to sell at inflated prices.
Following his usual method, he collected petrol multiple times from the Sundarganj Filling Station. When he returned to the station for a further collection, locals alerted the police, who then arrested him at the scene.
