The government has formed the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR), appointing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman as its chairperson.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Wednesday regarding the constitution of the 20-member committee.
The committee includes the ministers for local government, finance, home affairs, industries, and law, as well as the state minister for public administration and the prime minister’s principal secretary.
Furthermore, the committee comprises secretaries and representatives from the ministries and divisions of public administration, land, home affairs, finance, legislative and parliamentary affairs, coordination and reform, law and justice, and local government.
It also includes a member from the physical infrastructure division of the Planning Commission and the secretary of the ministry or division relevant to any specific proposal.
NICAR is mandated to consider proposals for the establishment, restructuring, and renaming of ministries, divisions, directorates, and departments.
Additionally, the committee reviews proposals for the creation of new divisions, districts, upazilas, city corporations, municipalities, and police stations, as well as the redrawing of their respective boundaries.
