According to Variety, Yoshimura Kana’s manga Murciélago will receive a TV anime adaptation set to premiere in 2027. Streaming platform HIDIVE has secured exclusive rights for multiple international markets, including the United States and Canada.
The announcement came during Anime Expo 2026. HIDIVE, the anime streaming service under AMC Global Media, confirmed that it will stream the series exclusively in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
Murciélago first serialised in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine in August 2013. The manga has sold more than 2.3 million copies worldwide. It currently spans 28 volumes in Japan, with 26 volumes available internationally.
The story follows Kuroko Koumori, a former death-row inmate who receives an unusual legal arrangement to work as a state executioner. It also follows her partner Hinako Tozakura, a quiet young woman with exceptional driving skills. Together, they handle dangerous threats hidden within society.
Naoya Takashi serves as chief director on the project. His previous works include Am I Actually the Strongest? and Tales of Wedding Rings. Asami Matsuo directs the series. Her credits include I’m the Villainess, but I’m Being Doted on by the Crown Prince of the Neighboring Kingdom and Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table.
Animation production comes from Satelight, known for Drops of God and PSYREN, and Staple Entertainment, which produced Tales of Wedding Rings and Watari-kun’s ****** Is About to Collapse. Tateishi Sei handles character design. Akita Masanori and Tsuchiya Yuichi compose the music.
Producers released a teaser, a key visual, and a commemorative illustration alongside the announcement. They also shared messages from Yoshimura Kana and both directors.
