Mohammad Shahajahan has been elected president of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) for the remainder of the 2025-2028 council term, the professional body said on Tuesday.
He was elected at the institute’s 123rd council meeting held on 4 August and will serve until 9 October 2028.
Shahajahan currently serves as divisional controller of accounts for Rangpur Division under the Office of the Divisional Controller of Accounts. A member of the 24th Bangladesh Civil Service (Audit and Accounts) cadre, he joined government service on 2 July 2005 and has held various positions in the Audit and Accounts Department.
He also served for five years on lien as a financial management specialist for the World Bank and International Fund for Agricultural Development-funded National Agricultural Technology Programme Phase II under the Ministry of Agriculture.
An accounting graduate, Shahajahan earned both his honours and master’s degrees in Bangladesh before completing an MSc in Development Management, specialising in Public Economic Management and Finance, from the University of Birmingham in the UK.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in the UK and the Institute of Financial Consultants in the US. He also serves as vice president of the Bangladesh Accounting Association.
The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh, established under the Chartered Secretaries Act, 2010, is the country’s statutory professional body for chartered and company secretaries and promotes corporate governance standards across Bangladesh.
