Police have recovered the body of a 48-year-old man from his own papaya grove in Medulia village under Singair upazila of Manikganj early Friday.

The deceased, identified as Shamsuddin, also known as Sambu, was a masonry contractor and father of three. He was the son of the late Amjad Hossain of Dhalla Union.

According to his wife, Kanchan Mala, Shamsuddin left home on Thursday night after having dinner with the family but did not return. His body was found early Friday morning by two local residents, Riyazul Islam and Phela, in a papaya orchard near his residence. Family members and locals later recovered the body and brought it home.

Although the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, locals said Shamsuddin had been under significant mental and family stress in recent days. They noted that his son was struggling with drug addiction, while his daughter was facing domestic difficulties, which had reportedly affected his mental wellbeing. Some villagers speculated that he may have suffered a stroke due to stress.

Singair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mazharul Islam confirmed that police visited the scene after being informed.

“Primary observations found no injury marks on the body,” he said, adding that the deceased had reportedly been suffering from various illnesses.

As the family raised no complaints or objections, the body was handed over without an autopsy.
