A large-scale measles vaccination drive began on Sunday in Mymensingh City Corporation, aimed at protecting children from potential outbreaks of the disease.

The program was officially inaugurated this morning at the Nagar Bhaban by City Corporation Administrator Roknuzzaman Sarkar, in the presence of Mymensingh Division Health Director Pradeep Kumar Saha, Chief Executive Officer Sumana Al Majid, and other officials.

According to City Corporation Health Officer Dr HK Debnath, a total of 58,668 children within the city corporation area will be vaccinated at 70 designated centers. In addition, 165,750 children outside the city—across Mymensingh Sadar, Trishal, and Phulpur upazilas are also being covered under the campaign.

Addressing the event, the city administrator highlighted the critical role of vaccination and public awareness in preventing measles. Health experts echoed this message, urging parents and guardians to ensure timely immunization and to seek immediate medical attention at nearby hospitals if symptoms appear, rather than attempting home treatment.

The initiative underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health and curbing the spread of infectious diseases.
