Police have arrested a man and seized 18 gold bars weighing approximately 180 bhori during a special operation in Sharsha upazila of Jashore on Wednesday.
The gold, weighing around 2.09 kilogrammes, was recovered from a motorcycle in front of Prime Bricks in the Dakshin Burujbagan area under Sharsha Police Station around 10:30am.
Navaran Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Arif Hossain said police recovered the gold bars after searching the motorcycle during the operation.
The suspect was arrested and the motorcycle, believed to have been used to transport the gold, was seized. Legal proceedings against the arrested man are under way.
The police official said an investigation would be conducted to determine the source and intended destination of the gold and whether any smuggling syndicate was involved.
The identity of the arrested man, the estimated market value of the seized gold and details of the case were not immediately available.
