A man allegedly attempting to abduct a four-year-old girl died after being beaten by locals in Khulna city on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 1:45pm near Boro Mosque at Rayermohol Bazar.
The deceased, Raju, son of Nazrul Biswas of Baliadanga village in Fultala upazila, was rescued by police in critical condition and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital. He died while undergoing treatment around 6pm, police said.
Aranghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Halimur Rahman confirmed the death.
According to police, Raju allegedly attempted to abduct Mim, daughter of local resident Hasan Gazi, near the mosque around 1:45pm.
Locals caught him and beat him, police said. On receiving information, officers from Aranghata Police Station reached the spot and took him to the hospital.
SI Ferdous, the station’s duty officer, said police would file a case over the incident.
