Police have arrested Md Anwar Hossain Sayeed, 50, for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the capital’s Pallabi area in Dhaka. The incident occurred at approximately 2:40am on Saturday in the Thirteen Hearts Camp area.
Sayeed reportedly intercepted the victim while she was returning from the bathroom, gagged her and forcibly took her to the second floor of his rented house. He then beat the girl and smothered her with a pillow until she lost consciousness before raping her, according to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release.
The perpetrator subsequently dumped the victim, into a water reservoir near a tap and fled the scene. The victim was later discovered by a local resident.
Upon finding the unconscious, the resident raised alarm, prompting family members and locals to rescue her and rush her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Local residents later captured Sayeed after learning of the incident. On being informed, Pallabi police arrived at the scene and took the accused into custody.
Police further revealed that Sayeed had been harassing the victim and making indecent proposals to her on various occasions. A case has been filed against the arrestee at Pallabi police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
