Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) has seized three luxury cars from an elite hotel in Cox’s Bazar on allegations of duty evasion and forged documents.
At a press briefing organised in the hall room of Hotel Ocean Paradise in Cox’s Bazar at 4pm on Friday, Rezvi Ahmed, additional director general of the CIID’s Chittagong Regional Office, disclosed these details.
Ahmed said the operation was conducted based on secret information. Customs officials launched the raid in the parking area of Hotel Ocean Paradise at around 3am on Thursday and seized the three luxury vehicles.
The seized cars, all manufactured in Japan, include a red-coloured 2021-model Toyota M Crop with registration number Dhaka Metro-Ga-30-1224, a red Honda brand car with registration number Dhaka Metro-Ga-18-9668, and a twin-grey 2020-model Mazda with registration number Dhaka Metro-Ga-24-7399.
During interrogation, users of the cars could not produce necessary import-related documentation or valid papers proving the purchase of the vehicles.
The CIID said they are currently investigating whether the cars were brought into the country through duty evasion, false declaration, forgery, or smuggling. Detailed investigation and legal proceedings regarding the three seized vehicles are currently ongoing.
