A legal notice has been sent to the government seeking the removal of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baharul Alam, after his name appeared on the list of those held responsible in the report of the National Independent Investigation Commission formed to probe the BDR massacre.

The notice states that he must be removed within 24 hours of receiving it, otherwise legal action will be taken against him.

On Thursday, Supreme Court lawyers Advocate Md Abdus Samad, Advocate Shahin Hossain and Advocate Md Atikur Rahman sent the notice. It was addressed to the principal secretary to the chief adviser, the home secretary, the public administration secretary and the law secretary.

It is to be noted that the report of the National Independent Investigation Commission on the BDR killings included the names of five police officers, including the current Baharul Alam, for failure to perform their duties.
