Amid ongoing discussions over a new pay scale for government employees, a popular song from an 1980s Bangladeshi film has suddenly gone viral on social media.
The song, ‘Tumi Amar Jibon’, features Zafar Iqbal and Babita lip-syncing to the voices of Runa Laila and Andrew Kishore.
The song was featured in the popular film Obujh Hridoy.
A particular line from the song—‘Keu jane na’ (Nobody knows)—has caught the attention of social media users, who are sharing the clip humorously in connection with the uncertainty surrounding the new pay scale.
Rubel Mahmud, a social media user, wrote, “I don’t know when the discussion over the new pay scale for government officials and employees will end.
New reports come out every day, but no one knows when the final decision will come. It seems no one knows when we will know either.”
Another user, Faruk Sakib, drew a direct connection between the song and the ongoing pay scale debate, writing, “The uncertainty surrounding the pay scale perfectly matches the lyrics of this song. Nobody knows anything, yet new reports appear every day.”
The question of when the pay scale issue will finally be settled remains unanswered. In the meantime, the repeated use of the phrase ‘Keu jane na’ has given the decades-old song a new relevance on social media.
The song has been viewed around 18 million times on YouTube and remains one of the memorable songs from Obujh Hridoy.
A 14-second clip featuring Zafar Iqbal and Babita has recently gained traction among social media users.
Obujh Hridoy was directed by Mostafa Anwar, while the song was written by noted lyricist and composer Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul.
