Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Ujjol Das, a Jubo League leader, in connection with a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination movement.
Das was apprehended on Monday evening in the Fatulla area of Narayanganj.
According to CID, Ujjol Das is affiliated with Jubo League politics and serves as the general secretary of Ward 44 in Sutrapur, Dhaka.
CID’s Special Police Superintendent (Media) Jasim Uddin Khan confirmed the arrest and stated that Das is named as accused number 59 in Sutrapur Police Station’s (DMP) case number 01, dated 01/09/2024, under sections 302/120(B)/109/34 of the Penal Code.
He further explained that on July 19 of the previous year, Nadimul Haque Elam, an active member of the anti-discrimination movement and a former student of Sheikh Borhanuddin College, was shot dead in Patla Khan Lane near the Poet Nazrul College area in Old Dhaka.
Following the incident, Nadim’s mother, Kismat Ara, filed a murder case at Sutrapur Police Station, naming Sheikh Hasina and 89 other individuals as accused.
Another case related to the incident was filed by Mohammad Shamsul Alam Arefin, a leader of the anti-discrimination student movement, at Sutrapur Police Station.
Jasim Uddin Khan mentioned that the CID, Dhaka Metro South Division, is conducting the investigation into the case.
The arrested Ujjol Das (44) is expected to be produced before court with a remand application as the next legal steps are underway.
The CID also stated that the investigation and operations are ongoing to uncover the full details of the crime, identify other involved members, and ensure further arrests.
